Why is my collection black?

I personally wear black about 90% of the time as it looks classy and stylish, but there is a deeper meaning to the color and for that we have to look into history.

In the Roman times and Middle ages black was associated with authority and dignity. Later in the 13th century the color black was associated with sinister and death, for example black animals like cats and crows were considered evil.

Black was an extremely expensive color to produce and was mostly made from bark, roots, and fruits, however most were bluish, grayish, or brown in tone. The best way to get black dye was to use Oak apples. These are very small so you need an extremely huge amount to get a little bit of dye.

In the 14th century black clothing became popular. At the time, mostly in Italy, there were rules that wouldn’t allow you to wear certain colors, if you were not in the high ranks of society. Wealthy people without ranks wanted to stand out too and there was no law on the expensive color black. This way they could still show their wealth, and so the demand for black fabric grew and with that did the skills of the dyers.

Beautiful black clothing did not go unnoticed by society. The color was so dark and elegant that the nobility classes of Europe took to wearing black. At the end of the 14th century, foreign kings and princes took interest in black clothing. So, black became the color of choice for noble young men for centuries.

My love for history and luxury made me choose this color for my collection.
